About this blog

This is my new blog. My previous WordPress blog was inaccessible for a while for reasons outside my control, so I moved to Hugo.

I’ll use this blog to write about technical problems I run into and things that happen in everyday life, much like I did before. I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to recover the old blog’s data. That depends on whether my former hosting provider is willing to retrieve it.

I can’t remember which friends I used to link to. If you notice someone missing, let me know. I’m also happy to exchange links; just get in touch.

At the time I wrote this page, I was a student at a vocational school and had ended up at a college whose environment felt like Chernobyl.

I no longer make videos. Mostly because I’m lazy.

I’m an amateur computer science enthusiast who likes Free Pascal. I was learning Dart and Flutter when I wrote this page.

Principles

As a software developer, I don’t want to dump needless junk onto people’s computers. I’m strongly against frameworks such as Electron when they make applications unnecessarily heavy.

As a computer user, I try to use open-source software whenever possible. When there is no usable open-source alternative, I use proprietary software that people generally trust.

Software should keep its full functionality and run efficiently while staying as small as practical. Calling software low quality just because its installer doesn’t bundle a pile of unrelated libraries is absurd.

Computers are supposed to help people solve problems more efficiently. They aren’t meant to make everyone spend their days arguing about the result of an expression such as (++i) + (++i) + (++i) in C. If I saw that in a real project, I’d send its author to discuss Siberian agriculture with Stalin.
