Why a Company Disbanded in Victoria 3: My Save-File Workaround
This is a player report, and I did not record the game version. Company requirements and dissolution mechanics may have changed since I played, so the behavior and workaround below may not apply to the current version.
While playing Victoria 3, I noticed that my United Construction Cooperative had disappeared and its company slot was available again. I had not disbanded it, and I had not seen a message explaining why it was gone.
I thought it might be a bug. I reloaded the save, but the company disappeared again at the same point in time.
Looking at its buildings gave me a possible explanation. The company had five buildings, one of them in a foreign country. That building became less profitable and was downsized. After the company no longer had five buildings, it disbanded.
I could not find an immediate way to transfer a building to the company. My workaround was to reload from two months earlier, nationalize all buildings of the relevant type in the company’s headquarters state, and then privatize them. The company eventually bought one of those buildings.
The company’s cash reserves were too small to buy a building directly, but the purchase was funded from the investment pool in my save. This is only the workaround that worked in my playthrough; check the current game rules and patch behavior before relying on it.
