Windows Hello Passkey Missing in Firefox When Signing in to Google

After a Windows update, Windows Hello face recognition stopped appearing in Firefox when I used Google OAuth to sign in to a third-party website. The only options left were scanning a QR code with my phone or using a security key.

I suspected a Firefox bug. Updating and refreshing Firefox did not help, and Windows Hello itself was working normally.

Passkey sign-in options

I eventually found that the relevant setting was the passkey stored for my Google Account. In Windows, open Settings → Accounts → Passkeys. My Google passkey was not listed there.

To fix it, open your Google Account security settings, choose Passkeys and security keys, and verify your identity using another method. Delete the old passkey for this device, then choose Create a passkey and follow the prompts.

After recreating the passkey, I tried again and could authenticate with Windows Hello in Firefox.
